  • Share video to Google Drive or YouTube on your phone and then capture URL (web address) to link on your website.
  • Be sure video is shared with the public on Google Drive or Youtube.

Change the Game
Deadline: June 7th
Audience: Ages 13-18 (must be US citizen or permanent resident,  and obtain parent/guardian permission)
Description:Change The Game is Google Play’s initiative to build a diverse future in mobile gaming. To empower the next generation of game makers, we invite teens to tap into their imagination and share their own game idea to the Change The Game Design Challenge.

The grand prize winner will receive a $15,000 college scholarship and $15,000 for their non-profit's or school's technology program. All five finalists will have their game ideas produced and launched on the Google Play Store, a VIP trip to LA  to showcase their game design, and a scholarship to Girls Make Games summer camp.

Henderson Middle School for mapping out a clear plan to launch their schoolwide Walking Club n the next few weeks. 

Clinton Middle School's Girls Revolution team for a stellar homeless awareness project that they presented to the councilmembers of City Hall and then donated boxes of baby hygiene products.

Description: The Imagen Foundation invites Latino college and high school students from all across the United States and Puerto Rico to submit their student films to the Imagen Awards Student Film Competition. This special competition is geared towards showcasing the best short films created by the young talent within our Latino community. Winners of the competition will have the opportunity to have their film screened at the 34th Annual Imagen Awards, in front of many of Hollywood’s movers and shakers!Students will be able to enter in either the College or High School Competition.

Description: Center Theatre Group is offering free tickets to the first performance of all productions at the Mark Taper Forum and Kirk Douglas Theatre as well as select Ahmanson Theatre shows. Limit two tickets per account. All tickets will be held at Will Call and must be picked up 30 minutes before the performance or they will be released. We know you are doing great work and sometimes it may feel redundant and exhausting documenting the work on your website and social media. Remember, this hard work is part of the story of your school, your team, and you! We don’t want the effort to disappear after you wrap up - this is your digital artifact that becomes resume worthy and  part of your professional story! This is how you keep your audience and highlight your results. 

Final project Deadline: May 5th is the deadline to turn in your final website and an end-of-year video. All materials - including guidelines and rubrics are found on our Curriculum page. 
All of the materials to submit your final report and nominate students for scholarships will be up on our website and released via the newsletter April 8th along with a letter with the details to the coordinators.

Reminder: Hold the date of Thursday, May 23rd for Girls Build online Awards Ceremony.

Team Event Strategy: 
Spring is here and it’s time to think about the end of the year and wrapping up the Girls Build season!

Our teams now span across the country so we will be holding our awards ceremony virtually to announce the winners. We’ll also send you a Girls Build packet to hold your own celebration with your team. Details coming soon! In the meantime, hold the date of Thursday, May 23rd.
We will do the awards twice!

This year, we will be awarding more than $10,000 in awards and scholarships for teams and students. Categories include best overall, best website, project impact and civic engagement.
We will also have an opportunity for students and coordinators to nominate students for individual scholarships worth up to $500.

All of the materials to submit your final report and nominate students for scholarships will be up on our website and released via the newsletter April 8th.

EDUCATORS: TECHFIT PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM
Summer, NO-COST STEM program PD for middle school teachers/counselors (Stipend to attend and additional Stipend to support the implementation of after-school or in-class activity)!
Date/Location: July 22-27, 2019 at the College of Charleston in Charleston, SC (required check-in is on July 21)
To be considered for TECHFIT, complete and submit the online application form (https://techfit.tech.purdue.edu/Teacher_App2019.aspx)
Deadline: no later than Friday, March 29, 2019.

Description: Selected applicants will earn $100 each day for full participation in the program, which includes, but is not limited to, completion of all projects, forms and assessments, and plans for delivery of the program. Accepted applicants are expected to successfully implement the complete TECHFIT curriculum as a class and/or as an afterschool program at their schools the immediately following school year. Successful implementation of the curriculum qualifies the applicant for an additional stipend of up to $500.

The Sacramento County Office of Education and the #CSforCA consortium are proud to announce the Summer of CS 2019 from June 17-21, 2019 in Sacramento.  This week-long event features intensive, in-person computer science professional learning experiences for K-12 teachers, counselors, and administrators.  
 
Professional development offerings include: 
  • Elementary and Middle School Teachers
    • Elementary 4 CS Workshop Featuring CS First and CS Fundamentals (grades K-5) - June 18-19, 2019
    • CS Discoveries Summer Institute (grades 6-8) - June 17-21, 2019
  • High School Teachers
    • Exploring CS Summer Institute (grades 9-10) - June 17-21, 2019
    • CS Principles Summer Institute (grades 10-12) - June 17-21, 2019
  • Counselors and Administrators
    • Counselors 4 Computing Workshop Presented by NCWIT - June 18, 2019
    • CSforCA Administrator Workshop - June 18, 2019

Teams of teachers, counselors, and administrators are encouraged and will be prioritized. Spaces are limited. 
 
Because of generous contributions from our partners, the professional learning experiences are available at no cost.  If applicable, travel, lodging, and staff costs are the district's responsibility.

Women’s Voices Now  Curated evening of film and discussion featuring four short social impact documentary films produced by our Summer 2018 Youth Media Training cohort in collaboration with Global Girl Media. Join us for the screening and conversation with WVN Executive Director Heidi Basch-Harod, WVN, Creative Director Leila Jarman, and Leslie Aaronson, Program Manager of Girls Build, about the importance and impact of engaging female youth in the fight for women's rights.

Description: GlobalGirl Media and  Women's Voices Now seek 18 committed and enthusiastic femme-identifying candidates for
our 2019 intensive summer media training program in Los Angeles. Each participant receives a weekly stipend, intensive documentary film and media training, access to mentorship and a host of exciting year-round opportunities.
You will: learn technical skills in digital media film and writing, engage with activist based methods of creating media for enacting social
change, learn how to research, write, produce, and edit short documentary, films, gain employable skills and resume building points and much more
