GirlsBuild'22 Team Timeline 


December 12, 2021 - Extended application deadline closes at 11:59 PM PDT (contact us if you need more time!) 

December 17, 2021 - Invitations are sent to 65 selected teams for the Girls Build Challenge.

January 11, 2022 -  Site coordinator paperwork is due for grants to be paid out on time.

January - February 2022 -  Host team retreats and plan out project execution.

February 6, 2022 -  Project outline, budget, and link to website are due by 11:59 PM PST. 

January - April 2022- Project execution and implementation.

May 8, 2022 - Final project: Turn in final website and project submission for review by 11:59pm PST. 

End of May 2022 - End-of-Year Celebration & Awards

GirlsBuild Application Info Session

What is Needed to Apply?

Team of Girls
  • All students need to be from the same public school (contact us if you need an exception).
  • At least 6 female students (or students who identify as female) in 6th through 12th grade.
  • A common vision to create a sustainable, lasting project.
  • Students who have participated in past Girls Build challenges are welcome to join again.

Site Coordinator (a teacher, admin at the school, or a school service provider) who will serve as the main point of contact for LA Promise Fund.
  • The Site Coordinator is expected to remain in the project through the entire school year and will receive a $1,200 stipend.
  • Site Coordinator Responsibilities:
    • Recruit students/team members
    • Find time and space (once in-person instruction resumes) to hold meetings with the team
    • Coordinate and lead logistics/planning from the school side
    • Act as the liaison between the school and LA Promise Fund
    • Manage and facilitate spending of the budget

Project Idea
  • A clear idea of the impact area you want to address, and why it is important.
  • Key impact areas are:
    1. Civic Engagement
    2. Health & Wellness
    3. Education: STEM & College Access 
  • The project must demonstrate an active civic engagement component that ideally extends beyond your school.

Team Introduction Slideshow OR Video
  • In no longer than 3 minutes, submit a video introducing yourself, your students, your school, and an overview of your project idea.
  • OR, submit a slideshow doing the same thing. We highly recommend using Google Slides.
  • ​Turn in through a YouTube or Google Drive link (instructions inside the application).
  • Watch our "How To" video below for tips on how to make your video stand out!

If selected to be a funded GirlsBuild Team...
  • Teams will need access to a computer and the Internet at times during the year. As a key component of the project, teams will build a website, create social media accounts, and videos to build a digital footprint of your project.
  • We will supply training, tutorials, and resources to make this happen, no prior experience necessary!
  • Each participating team will receive a $1,000 grant to design and implement a solution addressing an important challenge you have identified in your school or community.
  • Site Coordinators will receive a $1,200 grant. Teams can have more than one coordinator and split the $1,200 grant.
