LOOKING TO UP YOUR CIVIC ENGAGEMENT INVOLVEMENT?
Check out these upcoming National Days/ Months:
  • February is Black History Month - What role models can you highlight? Check out the new Modern Figures Podcast that introduces and elevates the voices of Black women in computing (produced by IAAMCS and NCWIT)
  • March is Women in History Month
  • February 6th is National Girls & Women in Sports Day (Feburary 6th) (NGWSD). This year’s NGWSD theme is Lead Her Forward, to honor the many ways that sports push girls and women to achieve excellence and realize their boundless potential.
  • February 17-23 - Engineers Week including resources and Girls Day Kits
  • March 8th is International Women's Day 2019. The campaign theme is #BalanceforBetter Better the balance, better the world. How will you celebrate women's achievements on Friday March 8, while calling for a more gender-balanced world? Planning is underway by groups worldwide.

Kudos to Wooden Women @Work who met with LAUSD Board member Sand and secured an endorsement to proclaim May as “Safe Jobs for Youth Month!”

Description: The Summer Immersion Program is a FREE 7-week summer program to learn the computer science skills to make an impact in your community while preparing for a career in tech. Classrooms are hosted at influential tech companies, like Twitter, Amazon, and AT&T, where girls will be exposed to mentors and role models. Stipends of up to $1400 to cover transportation and living costs are available to those who qualify. Cities include: Atlanta, Austin, Bentonville, Boston, Charlotte, Chicago, Dallas, Fayetteville, Hoboken, Houston, Irvine, Jersey City, Los Angeles, Miami, Newark, New York City, Philadelphia, Raritan, San Francisco Bay Area, Seattle, Stamford, Washington DC, and Wilmington.

PROJECT UPDATE
We have added links to all the teams' websites! They are looking so great. Please check out the other teams for added inspiration and begin to link your sites budget, planners, social media links to build out your site.

It is time to spread the word about your project! Share your message with your community in a way that sticks and makes an impact. We also encourage you to use this time to
recruit new members. At the very least to get underclassmen excited so you have sustainability for your team next year.

Annenberg Youth Academy
Audience: Current high school freshman, sophomores and juniors

Description: 
The Annenberg Youth Academy for Media and Civic Engagement is a four-week summer intensive academy for 26 talented high school students from the communities surrounding the USC University Park and Health Science Campuses. Students are exposed to the equivalent of first-year college-level courses and develop a rich conceptual understanding and practice of the necessary role that media communications and journalism play in fashioning civic-minded thought leaders and innovators.
Program Dates: Monday, June 17, 2019 – Friday, July 12, 2019 (no class on Thursday, July 4 or Friday, July 5 due to Independence Day)

Program Time: 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m, at Wallis Annenberg Hall (ANN)  includes: Free breakfast and lunch daily; AYA swag; One TAP card with a $50 value (if needed); Educational field trips; Three periods per day; Ability to meet new peers and engage with our faculty, students and staffThe Women's March is happening on Sunday, January 19th - perhaps your team can go together and do something around your project.
